Clean Up Your Act: Cleaning and Organising Hacks That Actually Work

Looking for simple cleaning and organising hacks that make a real difference? You’re in the right place.

We all face messy challenges, like a cluttered garage, muddy shoes at the door, or kitchen chaos. This blog will show you how to overcome them without breaking a sweat. We’re all about creating durable, washable, proudly South African plastic products that make a difference.

Here’s how to clean smarter, not harder.

Cleaning Pros Declutter First

Ever try scrubbing down a countertop buried under stuff? Not fun. That’s why the golden rule is: declutter first, then clean.

It’s also good to have a system. We recommend separating “stuff” into four categories: keep, donate, throw out, and relocate.

Don’t overthink it. Keep four bins on hand so that you can make this a regular habit instead of a “just before you clean” exercise. It will help save time and make cleaning feel less daunting. Once things are in their proper place (or gone for good), wiping, sweeping and scrubbing suddenly feel way more doable.

Pro tips:

·       Stackable bins and organisers are a great way to launch your new system without taking up heaps of space.

·       Nesting bins with wheels are convenient when you want to move from room to room (or between offices) and have a LOT of decluttering to do. They also nest inside each other when empty for neat storage.

Set Up a DIY Cleaning Station

Hunting for rags and spray bottles every time you want to clean something? No thanks. Instead, create a few grab-and-go cleaning stations.

Keep a small container with a cleaning spray and a microfibre cloth in cupboards, under sinks, in the kitchen, bathrooms, and the garage. That way, you don’t have to trapse around if you want to do a quick spot clean and stay on top of the grime.

Remember that you should never reuse rags (it’s counterproductive, spreading germs on surfaces you want to clean). We recommend having a laundry basket in every room, as it discourages unsightly piles of clothes on the floor or draped over furniture. It also means you can conveniently discard a used rag or microfibre cloth.

Muddy Gear? Bring It On.

South African life means dirt, dust, and the occasional epic thunderstorm. If you live on a farm, small holding or love gardening, then you know the plight of mud under boots.

Our heavy-duty tubs and buckets are perfect for:

Rinsing muddy boots outside.

Line this small wash basin with an old towel or a foam sheet and soapy water by the door. Gently wipe the underside of boots and shoes to prevent mud from caking in the tread.

Small Wash Basin

Rinsing athletic wear and swimming costumes.

Keep fresh water in this bucket with a handle in your outside basin. Toss costumes and gym or running clothes in the bucket to rinse off chlorine and sweat (preventing bacterial growth) until you’re ready to do a load of laundry. You can easily move the bucket if you need to use the sink.

Have a wash station wherever you need one.

Have you ever considered a mobile wash station? Not only is it expense to install a permanent basin and faucet with plumbing, but it can also be an eyesore in certain places.

The standalone wash basin with a foot pump resembles granite, but it weighs only 8 kilograms. You can easily move it wherever you need it:

·       Near the braai during functions. Whether it’s at home or a company function, the braai master and guests can wash their hands without needing to go inside.

·       Near contractors. Perhaps you’re painting, tiling, or having your garden overhauled. Spare workers the hassle of trekking to the tap to wash their hands and tools.

·       At events. Keep portable toilets available by adding separate washing stations, like this 300-litre, 3-station basin.

Because our products are washable, UV-stabilised, and virtually indestructible, they’re built to handle whatever your day throws at them.

The Lazy Genius Guide to Everyday Tidying

Here are a few secrets to cleaning success that we love:

·       Your rubbish bins can double up as buckets. You might not need a 15-litre bucket every day, but when you do, you can use your plastic rubbish bin. Metal trash cans are single-use, but a plastic bin lends itself to many other uses. We heard about a mom who used her recycling bin when dying her outdoor furniture cushion covers—something she wouldn’t need to do again for years. The plastic is impervious to staining, so cleaning up after was a breeze, too.

·       If you don’t have a long-handled microfibre duster to clean ceiling fans, use a pillowcase! By placing the pillowcase over the blade and then wiping, all the dust is caught inside, rather than spreading all over your furniture (and you).

·       Plastic containers are impervious to harsh chemicals, like bleach or sterilising liquids (which corrode metal). Soak and rinse plush toys in sterilising liquid (like Milton's) to combat allergies.
